Guns in the Parks
Should people be allowed to carry firearms into National Parks and Wilderness Areas for self-defense?
The upshot is this organization is opposed to the idea.
I, on the other hand, think it’s a great idea. Why? Because in 1987 I went camping with my wife and daughter at Rocky Mountain National Park. Before going to the designated camp-ground to settle in, I asked the Park Ranger if there were any bears around. I was told, “No.” They LIED!
About midnight I awoke to the sound of heavy snuffling immediately outside of the tent.
Of late, I’ve noticed numerous reports in the media about bears coming through tent walls and attacking the people sleeping therein.
Those with guns were able to defend themselves. Those without....well...a number of them are dead.
I’m suddenly reminded of that line from Tremors, “This place is a mile-long smorgasbord. And we’re the entreés.”
Not to mention the two-legged varieties of ‘predators’.
So I gave my two-cents.
My only question is how do I verify they forwarded my contribution in an honest manner, if at all. Or did they put THEIR verbiage in under my ‘signature’?

Saving the Males
A Digression.
As it was getting (1) too off-topic and (2) of considerable interest to some people there, I decided to move that particular discussion to this venue....

One Would Think — 1
What’s REALLY ‘crazy’ here?
Seems to me that a professor of Law at a major university would know about such things as Building Codes and City Ordinances. But apparently academia is more out of touch than I would have thought.
Case in point.....Professor Reynolds, a.k.a., Instapundit, seems to think America is ‘crazy’ if people get upset when someone builds an ediface on public land without prior permission from the bodies that govern that land for the public. But nevertheless Glenn Reynolds says Jeez. But read the whole thing to find out why it’s rational to be crazy these days.
I can agree with his complaint about ‘liability insurance’ requirements. I can agree with his observation regarding the pettiness of people complaining about children having good, clean fun. I hear those sorts of complaints all to frequently in Zoning Board of Appeals applications. But I cannot accept his ignoring the fact that the structure was built on public land without permission.
Which is crazier? That people insist on liability insurance against being beaned with a WIFFLE ball? Or that a professor of law ignores the law?
Senator Kerry vs. Senator McCain....
We’re talking rank projection, here.
Where are Wilson and Plame now that we REALLY need them?
Interesting report today.
Seems that Hussein’s efforts at achieving nuclear weapons were much more real than Wilson and Plame—along with a lot of others—would like US to believe.
I say, let them eat [yellow]cake. And have done with them. Seems we have 550 metric tons of the ‘flour’ to bake em with. Either that or let them eat ‘crow’.
Paul! You there, buddy?
First it was Debt of Honor and 9/11.
Now could it be that someone in Iran read his Executive Orders?
Hope they haven’t read the sequel; Rainbow Six and enlisted the assistance of that idiot academic in Texas.
From the high court to the public schools.
It seems that the public education system in England is taking a lead from their Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips. According to this report, they’re indoctrinating the children in the practice of Islam. And if they don’t comply OR they don’t do it correctly, they are punished.
The two boys belong to a class that includes 11- to 12-year-olds, and after their refusal to participate they were given detention, the story says.
Furthermore....
Another parent, Karen Williams, told the Mail: “Not only was it forced upon them, my daughter was told off for not doing it right. They’d never done it before and they were supposed to do it in another language.”
As the saying goes....
...the Another HIT Piece.
Check it out....
Count that as an ‘oopsie’, m’laud.
Looks like there was a veritable ‘firestorm’ over England over Lord Phillips the other day about bringing Sharia law into the English legal system.
Last night he repudiated, as I see it, his earlier comments.
Who knew the slogan would be so apropo?
Senator Obama is living up to his campaign slogan. He’s changing his positions on just about anything and everything every day or so. It’s so bad that even the London Times is making fun of him.
Earlier this week, Chris ’Day by Day‘ Muir was bringing up that classic song by Queen, Another One Bites the Dust, but with a clever re-phrasing of the chorus....
England going down the toilet.
The Chief Justice of England now says that Sharia Law should be used in his land.
I’m going to have to watch Errol Flynn in his classic swashbuckler, Captain Blood, tonight. Why? Because I’m suddenly reminded of the court room scene where Doctor Blood confronts a similar idiot sitting on the bench.
What more could you expect.....
....from someone whose ‘christian’ ethics support sucking baby’s brains out to sustain his life-on-earth.
Or maybe it’s a matter of ADD.
Then again, it could be that he is ‘just kidding’. Maybe I should ask Armed Liberal about that....
Just when you thought thinks couldn’t get much worse....
...along comes My Little Cthulhu; the cuddly ultimate in [Lovecraft] horror.
And I thought people were being lead astray by the ‘Harry Potter’ series. Will a cabbage-patch version of Satan be next? Can we combine Evil with Horror? Will we be asked to collect the whole set?
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS 031641 Jul 08: For that matter....
Will we ‘go to Hell’ if we don’t?
Will we ‘go to Hell’ if we do?
Who’s ‘in charge’ of this mess anyway?
Who’s responsible for all these computer hacks?
Over at Strategy Page, they’re thinking about Communist China’s responsibility for ‘malware’ attacks.
I’d call their analysis of the Communist governments involvement ‘accurate’.
UPDATE: Sheesh! Talk about ‘prescient’....031304 Jul 08: Not too long after I made the initial post, I find THIS.
Here’s the ‘critical’ quote.... Or it’s possible they installed a piece of malicious software on a banking server to capture unencrypted PINs as they passed through.
Admittedly, the names of the defendants in the one case cited in the article sound more Russian or Slavic than Chinese, but whose to say the Communist Chinese aren’t ripping US off as well?
....With Iran!
As found at Instapundit:
My two cents of logic.
Premises:
1. As oil prices rise higher, more and more sustainable energy solutions become financially viable.
2. Sustainable energy helps cool the earth thus solving the problem of global warming and saving the planet.
3. Greenpeace supports saving the earth.
4. Any attack on Iran would cause the price of oil to spike.
Conclusion: Greenpeace supports an attack on Iran (at least in concept).
Is this logic inescapable?
Where’s my Wff N Proof??!?!??!???

Lileks On the Fourth of July
England’s Lord Chief Justice and ‘Change’
Change We Can Believe In
I’m confident that we’ll see more ‘changes’ of this sort. And, if US is stupid enough to put him in the Oval Office, every nation on the face of the Earth will have no idea what he’ll ‘change’ his opinion on next. Maybe he’ll even decide to go nuke on Iran. Or China. Or England.....
