The 2008 Mile High AG
A message from National.
Got an e-mail message from Russ Bakke, Chairman of American Mensa Limited, about the proposed 2008 AG in Denver.
Here’s the text of the e-mail.....
Global Warming, Anyone?
Thoughts on a discussion.
I’ve been involved with a discussion on the merits of former Vice President Al Gore’s latest movie, An Inconvenient Truth. Someone made a comment that I thought I’d address here, where I have more lattitude in terms of links and discussion.
Here is the last post to me regarding this matter....

A Sleepy Little Colorado Town
Is it the gold rush all over, curiosity seekers, or am I just coming in halfway through the movie?
Being somewhat new to town, and still not understanding the workings of my local Mensa group, the latest excitement has been an interesting puzzle to piece together. Fortunately, I have a lot of resources, and I have some ideas. But will anybody ever know?
People who should have known things seem to have gone missing, or at least are not yet identified. Behavior not normally seen as “normal” is once again being seen, but I question whether the more dramatic among us are the ones who are really behaving strangely!
There seem to be a lot of people running around saying “simmer down, people”, which is of course what people do when they are given responsibility, but are all of those people doing it for altruistic motives? Are people going to come to Denver for an AG just to see the drama, or have a meet and greet with the infamous Denver Mensa? Is the circus coming to town because of that very fact - that our team is still in the locker room, having a water fight, and not paying attention to what’s going on on the field?
No matter what is going on, conspiracy, invasion or something darker or just a lack of manners, this is a call to pay attention, to support our organization not by repeating “simmer down” to the unruly members, but by realizing that in fact we are all adults, *very* intelligent adults, and we should show it! We owe it to our fellow Mensans, to hold to high standards at all levels, think critically and clearly, and ensure that what does result is the very best outcome it can be, for Mensa at large.
Temper Tantrums In Denver Mensa
Mario resigns! So what else is new?
In a fit of pique Mario de Benedittis has resigned his position as Local Secretary of the Denver Chapter of Mensa.
Why? Well. Just because he feels like it. And he feels like it because he’s Mario de Benedittis. That’s why.
What caused this sudden decision? Because someone wanted to throw a big party and didn’t ask his permission. Yes. that ‘someone’ is American Mensa Limited. And the party is the 2008 Annual Gathering. And, for some strange reason—yet to be fully understood—Mario seems to have been left out of the ‘decision process’.
There’s a LOT that isn’t known on how this all came about. I trust we’ll find out in due time. We’ve got a couple of years before this thing is to take place. That is IF it takes place. But I feel there is no need for people to go jumping out of 15th story windows over it.....yet.
In the meantime, it’s ALL ABOUT MARIO!
Here’s my fisking of a letter he sent me after I suggested he calm down.....

[Jurist] Doctor Heal Thyself
Glenn ’Instapundit‘ Reynolds is concerned.
First off, he’s concerned about the Communist Chinese ratchetting up their censorship of the blogosphere, as far as they can affect it. But he seems particularly concerned that American companies, e.g., Microsoft and Google and some others, are helping them do it.
This makes ME concerned. And what am I concerned about? Well, I’m concerned that the blogfather can’t seem to do anything other than talk about his concern. If he REALLY wants to do something that will get the attention of these companies that are anti-American at heart, he’ll get himself a Macintosh and not touch Google again. But he just can’t quite seem to bring himself to do anything other than talk about the matter. It’s sort of like listening to him complain about the weather. However, in THIS venue, he actually could do something about it. Other than talk.
Glenn....
....honestly. Your whining isn’t going to do anything constructive. Move up to a superior machine. How many times has your Dell malfunctioned in the last year? My primary Mac hasn’t malfunctioned once in all that time.
Besides, you’ll feel like you’ve actually done something to help the Chinese people. Microsoft and Google aren’t going to until YOU and everyone like you gets off their duff and does something.
