Discussions on TCS
A lengthy fisking of a lengthy comment over the War on Terror in Iraq.
There’s a bit of a stormy discussion going on over at Tech Central Station. It is driven by an article by Arnold Kling on how things are going in Iraq.
One of the comments was a thoughtful argument by Pauled.
I tried to reply there, but my reply, along with his comments, was too long. So I’m providing my reply here....

Planning a Conference?
There’s a new item to consider in the negotiations with the hosting venue.
Here is an interesting report on how hotels are trying to rip-off we high-flying hi-tech laptop owners while attending conferences in their facilities.
Consider the possibility of having to spend, now get this....$175 for wifi access during the course of the conference. It actually happened. And if Denver Mensa IS going to host the 2008 Annual Gathering, we need to be aware of that aspect of the conference facilities.
Yeah. I know we got Latter-Day Luddites amongst us. But some of us are rather computer savvy.
What should we do about this?

Signage Needed?
Anybody need some signs or banners?
As part of Susan’s run at the legislature, and in light of how much money our neighborhood associates spent for their runs at the School Board and City Council, we decided to invest in ourselves. This instead of spending tens of thousands on signs that would make good dog-houses after the election was over with. We bought a large-format printer and upgraded our software to do banners and signs to support Susan’s candidacy.
So, we started a business to do that sort of thing. And we’ve been doing good work for Colorado Preservation, Inc., supporting their annual convention in Pueblo, Historic Preservation, Inc., preparing signs for their annual holiday historic home tour, the Pueblo County Farmers Market, and others.
Now we have the time to do unique and original signs and banners for anybody. And at reasonable prices, too. Try a full color 4’x8’ banner for less than $50, depending on the print media and how much time needs to go into it for graphic design work. [Note: It’s interesting how many times some people want to go back to the drawing board.]
If you are interested in something for your group activity—a banner to mark your location, signage for a convention, etc.,—contact us at Da Vinci Group
By the by....
....some of this banner printing media goes for as little as $3 a linear foot, at 42” width (for poly-weave light). Throw in your own graphics, e.g., you provide us with the stuff you want printed on a banner—pdf or PhotoShop—and that brings the price down to just a bit over the cost of the fabric, printing, shipping and handling.
Stop IT!!!!
A former Muslim terrorist, speaks out....
Interesting report here....
This caught my attention....
Hamid is infuriated by the Western reponse to this challenge: “Stop asking what you have done wrong. Stop it! They’re slaughtering you like sheep and you still look within. You criticize your history, your institutions, your churches. Why can’t you realize that it has nothing to do with what you have done but with what they want.”
Then I read his ‘credentials’.....
Chieftain, My Chieftain V
Why does the Pueblo Chieftain think the Democrats are not going to “Cut and Run” in Iraq?
The other day the Pueblo Chieftain published an article on how it was told, by the Democrats, that they thought last Tuesday’s election was....
....not a mandate for the U.S. to immediately withdraw from Iraq....
And it makes me wonder what sort of gullibility is going on in their offices.
This is especially true in light of the fact that on the same day it was reported that a number of Democrats from the new Congress were meeting with former presidential candidate George McGovern on how HE would deal with Iraq. McGovern, for those too young to remember, was the Democrat’s standard bearer for a rout from Viet Nam. His mentality of ‘cut and run’ has not diminished in the ensuing 30+ years. He’s even published a book on the matter.
They must have liked what they heard, because they’ve apparently invited him to speak again before their Congress.
Combine this with the revelation about the Baker Commission on Iraq and you get a pretty good idea of what they have in mind.
So, I ask....how is it that the Pueblo Chieftain is missing all these, as we would call them in the military, ‘indicators’?
I look forward to their explanation in a few short months.
UPDATE: No Sooner Said, Than.... [121325 Nov 06]: Here’s ANOTHER indicator.

Thoughts on the Forthcoming Rout
History repeats itself; Viet Nam in the Middle East.
Many people were intrigued by the Democrats alleged plan to deal with the War on Terror’s campaign in Iraq. It was supposedly (1) a secret, (2) would not be a ‘cut and run’ approach and (3) would solve all our problems.
Guess what. They lied....
We’re Back
And ready to roll again.
It’s been a while since I was actively publishing things here. That was due to the necessity of supporting another major activity. Now that that is ‘over with’, by and large, I can get back to posting interesting items here once more.
More to follow, shortly.

Major Media Goof
And they wonder why we question their veracity?
I ran across this in a link from Drudge
Europe, after all, had colonized much of the black world, and the United States had enslaved people of African descent for nearly 250 years.
For crying out loud!!! The United States could not possibly have enslaved anyone for 250 years, it’s only 230 years old. And slavery was abolished, when? 1865? When it was less than 100 years old. I don’t know who Stanley Crouch is, but I’d sure like to know what school he went to.
