Planning a Conference?
There’s a new item to consider in the negotiations with the hosting venue.
Here is an interesting report on how hotels are trying to rip-off we high-flying hi-tech laptop owners while attending conferences in their facilities.
Consider the possibility of having to spend, now get this....$175 for wifi access during the course of the conference. It actually happened. And if Denver Mensa IS going to host the 2008 Annual Gathering, we need to be aware of that aspect of the conference facilities.
Yeah. I know we got Latter-Day Luddites amongst us. But some of us are rather computer savvy.
What should we do about this?

I think you should be posting all responses. Cookie has done a yeoman job of securing the contract with Adams Mark. It was already done in July.
Yup. Denver is indeed the host city for the 2008 AG. (At this moment it remains to be seen if the bid will continue as a true “Consortium” bid, or if it will morph (with required AMC approval, of course). into a multi-group Region 7 bid.
I was unable to pull up the article you referenced, but there has GOT to be more to this story than what hit print and frightened you. I cannot fathom that the Adam’s Mark is going to attempt to RIP MENSA OFF with a $175 per person wifi charge. Most facilities now have wifi free zones, usually in the lobby. As a matter of competition, more and more meeting facilities are offering such amenities. Also, for those who acquaint signing on with breathing, and who require Internet Air multiple times per day, recent AGs have been obtaining sponsorship for a specific sign on area (usually in the main Hospitality Suite) to allow users to check their email.
I assure you that the 2008 contract is one of the best (if not THE absolute best) AG contracts that Mensa has had. We take special care to see that there are no surprises.
