Saving the Males

A Digression.

There’s been a discussion over on Pajama Media about Saving the Males from the New York Times. It has digressed to another discussion regarding faith in God.

As it was getting (1) too off-topic and (2) of considerable interest to some people there, I decided to move that particular discussion to this venue....

RE: Understanding? In Your Dreams!

“I fully understand the concept of a fallen world;a pathetic attempt to justify the death of innocents.”—deguello

As I stated earlier, I think you’re sadly mistaken. Contrary to your personal opinion, you do NOT ‘understand’ the concept of ‘a fallen world’.

Or, are you suggesting that God is the ‘killer’? Just because He lets us do what we want? Isn’t that like saying you’re a murderer because I haven’t gone out and killed all the murderers? Or that whomever invented the hammer is a murderer because what he invented was used to murder someone?

Why is it, if you understand the concept of ‘a fallen world’, you don’t understand the concept of ‘free will’?

“Like all such casuistry, it’s unconvincing.”—deguello

Only for those who don’t care to be ‘convinced’.

“That’s why the Christian church tried to suppressd Greek literature, especially tragedy, which is about trying to find meaning in suffering, without phantasmagoric notions of guilt, the fall,or more such nonsensicsl ways I to induce guilt, and prevent thought.”—deguello

I’m familiar with the more nefarious acts of some people who put themselves in authority over others.

But this is a digression. What’s the point? That people in authority won’t be selfish? Something else to do with ‘pride’? God knows I’ve witnessed it enough in my studies and my experiences. You’re just another indication that it continues to be a problem. Just from another angle.

RE: When I Meet Him

“Consider: what will you do in those last seconds of consciousness before death, and realize that you will NOT meet god.”—deguello

I’ve more proof of meeting Him than you have of not meeting Him.

What will be my last thoughts? As that old hymn goes, “We hope to die shouting, ‘The Lord will provide.’” [Note: See John Cohen’s album Trav’ling Home: American Spirituals 1770-1870]

Why? Because I’ve encountered and recognized the proofs of His actions in my life over the last 30 years. From events that most people would never walk away from—think of plummeting out of a black-night sky with a malfunctioning parachute or in a ‘snit’ with an 18-wheeler on an interstate—to immediate answers to prayer regarding matters of extreme pain due to illness.

Then there are the advanced metaphysical events as well. But you probably wouldn’t care to hear about them. Much like some horror flick. And no I wasn’t ‘dreaming’ when that thing attacked. I was wide awake.

“By the way,I do not mean to be insulting;I actually respect people who try to live their faith.”—deguello

I hate hypocrisy too.

Regards,

Chuck(le)

    RE: A Lack of Faith

It’s apparent that ‘deguello’ seems to have serious problems regarding his (1) faith, (2) intellectual integrity, (3) pride and (4) willingness to engage....

    deguello:

Nice try Chuckie, but characterizing intellectual integrity as pride,is cheap religious casuistry. By the way, that was a nice touch, using a brilliant atheist like Twain to buttress religion:but then you lack intellectual integrity,er, “pride”. Your condescending smugness,is really no different from that of the Times’ editors:same crap, different religion. Have a nice life Chuckie!

I would describe this as your typical atheist’s ‘Run awaaaayyyyyy!’ moment. Something derived from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

I see it all so often from his ilk when thinks get ‘serious’.
