The Long Year Away
Fun and Games with [Ass]Kissmet....
....or why I couldn’t post on certain web-sites.
Here’s the ‘dope’ on my ‘sabbatical’.
I got crosswise with Charlie (Colorado) Martin over a year ago. It was about his taking some talking-head [Brit Hume] to task over a comment about Buddhism—which Charlie is a practitioner thereof.
I was scoring some valid points in the discussion about Buddhism and Christianity,when Charlie declared—in the discussion—that I was a ‘spammer’. Shortly after that I could no longer post on Pajamas Media. Additionally, I couldn’t post on The Volokh Conspiracy and a couple of other blog-sites. Based on some research, I came to understand that all of these sites relied on an outfit called Kismet to block ‘spammers’. And, based on what I learned that anyone who is aligned with Kismet can make an allegation against someone and they are—apparently without further justification—blocked.
In some private communications, Charlie denied responsibility. However, old Army guy with experience in military intell, I couldn’t help but recognize a correlation between the events. And, considering that Charlie has—in the past—suggested I should be in a mental institution.....well....I suspect he may have been ‘projecting’ a bit.
It’s a technique.
Recently I checked one of the sites on which I was ‘blocked’ and found I could post comments again. So I tried Pajamas Media and apparently the ‘block’ is removed there as well. Not sure as to why, but I’ll not complain. However, I suspect that Kismet has either been (1) discredited or (2) they realized they had a problem just taking people at their word about such allegations and cleaned up their act.
What was the lesson? Well....that even on ‘conservative’ sites—sites that allegedly uphold the freedom of speech—people with intelligent views that go against someone’s grain, even when those views are presented without foul or abusive language, can be suppressed.
I just took it all as reason to be pleased.

Ha-ha, Chuck! I had a run-in with Charlie (pro-porn) Martin myself on PJM. I started using free proxy sites to post my rants after he purposely banned my I.P. Oddly, this new year, I am ‘un-banned’ and no longer have to use proxy sites to post on PJM. Go figure?
Anyhoo, it’s great to see you back on PJM. You are a blast and you lend a lot of fun to the ad-mixture which is the whackadoodle regulars. haha

Interesting that he did the same to you. But it figures. If it worked to silence one person, it should work to silence others as well.
The question becomes, HOW do we express this effectively to the people who REALLY run PJM?
I ask because it would be interesting to know if they countenance such behavior.

Chuck, My I.P. was immediately banned after an incident involving PJM when the techs [i.e. Charlie Martin and Co.] were experimentally implementing ‘avatars’ and I called Charlie Martin’s avatar (his face) ‘fat’ and ‘ugly’ porn lover [ahem lol]. Within hours after that my posts kept being sucked into the rabbit-hole without the usual “your post is awaiting moderation” or anything to show me that my post even had a chance. That’s when I started using proxy servers as a work-around (believe me, I was pissed off and wrote Roger L. Simon and he didn’t know what to do about it [he’s always kept me un-moderated on his personal blog btw]). I was disgusted but decided to dig my heels in and stay. Then, after the the New Year I posted without a proxy and voila, I finally got the “your comment is awaiting moderation” and it went through! I guess Charlie gave up because he couldn’t out-geek me anyway. Heh.
I hope all is well with you and your gorgeous wife btw (who I remember you describing as looking like the luscious brunette who starred in that cool space vampire movie “LifeForce”.

We spent all of yesterday judging regional high school forensics competitions. Qualifications for the state championships next month. Her focus is ‘interp’. I focus on debate. Pretty much brain-fried after 8 hours of listening to legal args. Winding down today. Nice Sunday brunch I made. Looking forward to smoking cigars, drinking scotch and blogging this afternoon on the back deck by the firepit.

Roger is super cool, polite and very kind but no “tech geek” at all so, whatever you do, try to keep anything related to ‘tech’ in layman’s terms as much as humanly possible so that he can understand what you are getting at.
Honestly, Roger is one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with but even he has his limits and I do have to keep myself in check and not run roughshod over his good graces.
With Roger, keep it more personal, very specific and less technical.
